Dog fungal infections

Dog fungal infections

Fungal infections are those which affect the outer layer of the skin of the humans and the dogs which are sometimes difficult to cure but they are not considered to be dangerous. Ring worm is considered to be the most commonly occurring fungal disease. Dog fungal infections need not change the appearance of the dog by causing little toadstools with red hats and white dots on top of the dog but they can cause anything from skin irritation to damages of internal organs.

The fungi affecting dogs can be divided into two categories pathogenic fungi and opportunistic fungi where pathogenic fungus occurs on the healthy dogs while opportunistic fungus occurs on dogs already affected by bacterial or viral diseases. The symptoms of the dog fungal infections vary with the time and the part affected from it and a vet can also identify the disease and find out which part is affected and can cure it.

Anti-fungal treatments are available for the dogs which are affected on the basis of the fungi caused and the level to which the disease has spread over the dog’s body. The disease can be prevented by protecting the dog from going to the soil areas from where fungi starts growing and also by protecting the dogs from entering to the bird nest areas which spread the disease.
